How to Use a Random Character

1

Beat the blank page

Draw one character and start your scene with them walking in. The quirk-plus-goal structure hands you a conflict for free.

2

Tabletop NPCs on demand

GMs draw three characters before a session and drop them in when players go off-map. Instant shopkeepers, rivals, and quest-givers.

3

OC design sprints

Artists draw the character card as a design brief — costume follows archetype, expression follows quirk, pose follows goal.

4

Cast your fan fiction

Draw a seed and bend it into your existing fandom — a retired knight works everywhere from Faerûn to a space station.

5

Brief the AI for a tailored cast

Describe your setting and AI mode invents characters native to it — a taxed-magic city gets tax-dodging wizards, not generic knights.

Questions

Random Character Generator FAQ

What is a character seed?

A castable one-line concept: an archetype (retired knight), a specific quirk (collects teacups), and a want (hopes to retire somewhere it never snows). Enough to start writing, not enough to constrain you.

How does it differ from the character name generator?

The name generator gives names for characters you already have. This one invents the character — then you can head over and generate their name.

Can I filter by genre?

Yes — Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Modern, or Historical. AI mode also reads your setting description and invents characters that belong in it.

Are these good for D&D and tabletop games?

Very — NPCs need exactly this shape: a role, a memorable detail, and a motive. Draw a batch before the session and you are never improvising blank shopkeepers.
